Recently, television news stories repeated misleading information about a video shared last week by a group representing Eaton Fire litigants. The group claimed the video was new and conclusive. But the video is not new. Instead, it appears to be a digitally modified version of images that came to light months ago.
The heartbreak experienced by those affected by the January wildfires and our commitment to keeping communities safe drive our work to help them rebuild better and stronger. One hundred days after the Eaton Fire started, we all want to know how it ignited. We remain committed to a thorough and transparent investigation.
As we noted in our Feb. 6 filing with the California Public Utilities Commission, while certain information and third-party videos from the early stages of the fire have emerged suggesting a possible connection to Southern California Edison’s equipment, SCE has not identified physical evidence in the preliminary origin area—such as broken conductors, arc marks or faults on the energized lines—that would support that association.
