KBLA Shares Incorrect Information

What KBLA shared on Nov. 4 about their upcoming town hall is incorrect.

Here are the facts:  

• Pedro Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, was never scheduled to be a town hall panelist.
• When Southern California Edison was approached by KBLA Radio, SCE expressed interest in participating and asked for more details. 
• After being informed that plaintiffs’ attorneys would not be involved (as SCE would not participate if any plaintiff's attorney were participating), we confirmed our attendance at the town hall. 
• We are not participating in public events with plaintiffs’ attorneys, as we expect many attendees are represented by attorneys, as is SCE. This can create ethical challenges, which can be avoided when lawyers and law firms do not participate.
• We were looking forward to connecting with the community. 
• When a KBLA producer sent an email noting that a plaintiff's attorney would be participating in the event, and we noticed the attorney’s firm was named on KBLA’s website as an event sponsor, we made the decision to withdraw from the town hall.  
• When we declined, we offered to participate in an interview, and that offer remains open. 

 KBLA shared a version of this situation on air and social media that is incorrect. During Mr. Smiley’s radio show this morning, we reached out to KBLA requesting the opportunity to go on air live to review the facts, but our request was declined.  

 We would like to extend an invitation to attend a scheduled virtual community meeting SCE is hosting at 7:00 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 5. Pizarro will lead this meeting.

• Our first community meeting, led by Pizarro, was held Sat., Nov. 1 with about 200 attendees.  
• Before that, we held more than a dozen meetings to hear input from community members, public officials and legal representatives. 

The residents of the Altadena community have experienced a great deal of challenges this year, and we believe they deserve the facts.
